Loshka

Why I started Loshka

I started Loshka because I was tired of thinking about food every day.

When I wanted to lose fat, I built my own meal-planning system in Excel. I selected recipes for the week, found all the ingredients at the supermarket where I usually shop, worked out my calorie target based on the nutritional values of the ingredients and my weight, and created a grocery list.

It worked. For four weeks, I did not have to decide what to cook every day, and I lost 7 cm from my waist in one month.

What I loved most was not having to think about food all the time. But putting that plan together took almost a full day. I had to combine different recipes to hit my exact calorie target, while also making sure they worked for both of us: I am vegetarian, and my husband is not.

On top of that, after a month, I was already tired of eating the same meals. I knew I would not want to make that spreadsheet again — especially because it needed to be updated every week.

So I began building an app that automatically does what I used to do manually, with far more variety in the recipes.

Our mission

We want people to think, "What would I really like to eat this week?" instead of "What can I make quickly today?"

Loshka helps you choose, plan, and cook meals that fit you — before a lack of time or energy leaves you reaching for processed food or chips.

What does Loshka mean?

Loshka means "spoon" in Russian.

A spoon is a simple everyday tool that makes eating easier. I believe Loshka can do something similar for food: make choosing, planning, and cooking feel simpler every day.

What we believe

  • Healthy eating should not require hours of searching, calorie counting, or daily decision-making.
  • Healthy eating should embrace simple ingredients, quick recipes, and groceries you can actually find in your local store.
  • There is no single "right" way to eat. Your plan should fit your taste, routine, cooking skills, and goals.
  • A meal plan only works when you genuinely want to keep eating the meals in it.
